Highest flying insect

The greatest height reported for migrating butterflies is 5791m, for a flock of small tortoiseshells ( aglais urticae) seen flying over the Zemu Glacier in the eastern Himalayas. This is also the highest migrating butterfly. The small Tortoiseshell is a well-known colourful butterfly, found in temperate Europe. There are a few records from New York City which, however, are believed to have arrived human assisted. The adult is striking, with its dark body and red and yellow wings, which have a row of blue dots around the rear edge.

Extremely venomous snake

This Belcher’s Sea Snake (Hydrophis belcheri) extremely venomous snake is also commonly called Faint - banded Sea Snake - it is the most toxic snake in the world. It has a friendly temperament and would normally have to be subjected to severe mis - treatment before biting. Because of its docile nature, it is generally not regarded as very dangerous. Most electric fish


The electric eel (Electrophorus electricus) , is an electric fish, and the only species of the genus Electrophorus. It is capable of generating powerful electric shocks, which it uses for both hunting and self - defense. It is an apex predator in its South American range. Despite its name it is not an eel but rather a knife fish.

Up to 1.8m (6 ft) in length, the fish is live from head to tail with its electrical apparatus consisting of two pairs of longitudinal organs. The shock which can measure up to 650 volts is used to immobilize prey and is strong enough to light an electric bulb or to stun an adult human.

Rarest tortoise

Without argument, this turtle is one of few species of Giant Galapagos tortoises and the rarest animal in the world since there is only one left alive. Lonesome George is the sole surviving member of the Pinta Island race, the giant tortoise being a symbol for the fragility of the Galapagos Island, and a constant reminder for vigilance and conservation of the species. The species was considered extinct until 1971, when a lone example was located by rangers.

White - striped Butterfly

The unique Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly of eastern US, Mexico and Canada has distinctive black and white - striped pattern is reminiscent of a zebra. This Butterfly has triangular wings with long tails. It has some distinctive black and white markings on its wings and some small red and blue markings on both bottom corners of the wings. There are two seasonal forms.

The Colorful Ribboned Sweet lips  is also known as the Yellow - Ribbon Sweet lips. It is found in East Indo - West Pacific oceans and can attain length of up to 50 cm. Juveniles have black stripes and live alone on rubble slopes in deep water. As they age, the black is reduced to an outline, and the stripes become more yellow, increasing stripes develop with age.

Lowest mammalian Body temperature

A body temperature of -3°C (26°F) was measured for the Arctic ground squirrel of Alaska and north - west Canada. Its body temperature drops below freezing when in a state of suspended animation during its hibernation period in the Arctic water. Its normal body temperature in the summer months is 37°C. Its hibernation, which can last up to nine months, is the longest hibernation by a rodent I the world.
